Common Symptoms of Hemorrhoids
HemorrhoidThe anal cavity has two kinds of blood vessels present in it. When either one or both get inflamed due to various reasons like friction, pressure etc. a hemorrhoid appears in the region. The nerve endings situated above the dentate line are called visceral nerves and they cannot feel pain, only pressure. Hence, hemorrhoids are often painless and cannot be felt. The nerves situated below the dentate line are called somatic nerves and these are capable of sensing pain. This is why external hemorrhoids cause pain and suffering.
Some common symptoms include itching, pressure due to the affected vein, burning sensation and pain while passing stool, bloody stool due to breakage of tissue around the anus, mucus generation and a bulge due to the hemorrhoid being forced out.
Bleeding and secretion of mucus is generally caused by protrusion which is caused, again, by pressure being applied on that area, due to several reasons. Stool leakage can also result from this, from the anal cavity. Constant moisture around the affected area, as well as bleeding and secretion of mucus, leads to itching and skin irritation disorders. Bleeding due to hemorrhoids generally occur in the last stage.
There are, all in all, four stages to hemorrhoids. These are as follows, and in the general order of progression and worsening of condition: The first stages involve bleeding hemorrhoids that do not protrude from the anal region.
Hemorrhoids that bleed as well as protrude are in the second stage of the problem. However, in such a case, the protruded part of the inflamed vein goes back in on its own over time. Hemorrhoids in the third stage protrude but cannot go back in without being pushed manually, by a finger.
If the hemorrhoids cannot be successfully pushed back in and they need surgery to relocate them, then it is considered to be the fourth stage. During this stage, there may blood clotting in the veins and thus causing a condition known as thrombosed hemorrhoids.
It is not enough to know the symptoms of hemorrhoids and distinguish between the different stages only. One should seek immediate treatment in such cases so that the problem does not aggravate.
