Myth #1 Hemorrhoids Gives You Bowel Cancer

Believing this myth is enough to strike fear in any hemorrhoid sufferers heart! But not to worry because it is just that- a myth. Let us distinguish between hemorrhoids and cancer. Hemorrhoids are rectal veins that have become enlarged and inflamed. On the other hand, cancer is brought on by veins that have divided and become unruly (in other words, they have gotten out of control).

Hemorrhoids do not cause colorectal cancer and they don’t lead to the development of any type of cancer in the rectum or colon. So rest easy. Sometimes a tumour in the bowel will result in Hemorrhoids however, as it may exert pressure on the rectal veins.

Myth #2 Hemroids are just for the elderly.

Afraid Not. Age does, however, play a part in the formation of Hemroids, or in the ease with which Hemorrhoids are formed. So getting older does increase your chances of getting Piles. However they can strike anyone of almost any age.

Hemorrhoids are caused when weak veins become swollen and enlarged due to blood clots. It is true that as you get older you the walls of the veins become weaker which does make it more likely that you’ll get them, and because of this people think that Piles are just for old people.

You should know though that many things can lead to Hemroids including poor diet (not enough fibber or water) and a sedentary lifestyle. The office environment doesn’t help, as long periods of sitting or inactivity have been positively linked to Hemorrhoids.

Myth #3 Anal Sex causes Hemorrhoids.

This is a very widely held misconception that anal intercourse can lead to hemorrhoids. It’s simply not true, although anal sex can cause a flare up and irritate haemorrhoids that you may already have!

Myth #4 No Hemroids Treatment Works.
