Piles or anal cushions are a very painful problem experienced by many people. This happens when you don’t have soft but still solid stoles. You have to force out your bowel movements, thus causing the problem of swelling. These piles can grow to the size of a grape, and become very painful. There are self-treatments that you can try to help out with the pain of piles. Trying these tips may have you avoiding a doctor’s visit.

Self-help tips are a great way to avoid the problem of piles. However, you may still be suffering so here are some ways that you should try at home, before heading into a doctor’s office. First try eating more fiber, this will allow your stool to be solid, but still a bit soft. This way you will not have to strain to have a bowel movement and it will allow the swelling of piles to go down. Not only adding fiber but drinking water will help to relieve and get rid of the piles you may already have.

Don’t sit on the toilet anymore than needed. Avoid reading when you are going to the bathroom, or stop reading as soon as your done, don’t add any extra time. Filling up the tub with some nice warm water and sitting down will help to relieve pain. Not only that but it will also help to keep the area clean.

If the problem continues on after the above hints, add a fiber supplement into your diet. You can also try a very mild laxative to see if that will help, but don’t use anything too strong or you will cause even more problems.

You can also buy some medicines over the counter to help relieve a bit of the pain, though they will not get rid of the piles. Try a soothing cream or ointment that will help with pain and some of the itchiness. A product that has corticosteroids in it will help to cut down on the pain and swelling too.

Continuous problems may have you making a visit to the doctor, where they can try other treatments out. Banding can be used if you have tried all the self help tips and still the piles continue. In this procedure that can be done as an outpatient, your doctor will apply a small band above the pile, thus cutting off the blood supply. After a few days the pile will die and come off, now all you need is to heal up that one spot!

Your doctor may try one of several other treatments, but hopefully you won’t need to see one. Try adding in fiber before you get piles, thus avoiding the problem to start with.
