A simple explanation of a hemorrhoid is a blood vessel that is located inside the anus that is filled with blood. Hemorrhoids normally start to become problems when becoming swollen. Hemorrhoids fall in two types of categories external and internal. A prolapsed hemorrhoid falls into the external category.

A Hemorrhoid that hangs out of the anus is normally called a prolapsed hemorrhoid. The hemorrhoid is usually a soft mass of tissue that is pinkish or red in color. Prolapsed hemorrhoids will protrude when a bowel movement is performed but normally will retract back into the anus on there own. Usually there is no pain associated with a prolapsed hemorrhoid and will most often be undetected.

The most severe type of hemorrhoids are thrombosed prolapsed hemorrhoids. A thrombosed hemorrhoid will normally create severe pain and will constantly hang out of the rectum. You may try to manually reinsert a thrombosed hemorrhoid, but normally they will fall back out on there own. A large infection percentage is present with this type of hemorrhoid.

Prolapsed hemorrhoids will most always result in itching or burning sensations, and may leak blood. Prolapsed hemorrhoid sufferers will be challenged just by sitting, walking or other everyday activities. If a prolapsed hemorrhoid becomes strangulated and the blood supply is cut off, it could lead to a serious condition.

Sever hemorrhoid cases should be taken to your local doctor. Symptoms of prolapsed hemorrhoids can be other dangerous medical conditions. It is wise to get a doctors recommendation when suffering from this problem.

For mild to moderate hemorrhoids the treatments are easier and usually involve creams and ointments, and warm water soaks. There are many home treatments that you can try for hemorrhoids. In more severe cases there are different types of surgeries that can be performed to remove the hemorrhoid completely.

As the old saying goes an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and this is the case with hemorrhoids also. Making sure you get plenty of fiber in your diet will go a long way in preventing hemorrhoids. Also make sure that you drink the recommended amount of water daily to keep yourself hydrated. Hemorrhoids don’t need to be something that you have to live with, rather you can be successful in handling the problem yourself.
